Many fine Philadelphia industrial buildings have found new purpose as condominiums. This building on Washington Square was built to hold printing presses, and the client and the architects wished to expose the heavy timber and steel structural elements that express the strength and solidity of the building. This approach worked well with the client's modern furniture and her own and collected art.The client is a partner in a successful design firm, and needs to have an office at home. The office was designed with glass doors and automatic blinds so that it can either be part of the larger space when she is alone, or it can be concealed when she has company or when she does not want to think about work. The kitchen is positioned for easy use and entertaining.
